What is The Novelist?

The Novelist is a privacy-focused and local-first desktop application built for writers who want to bring their stories to life without distractions or sacrificing control over their work. From writing your first chapter to building entire fictional worlds, The Novelist brings your books, characters, locations, timelines, research, and creative ideas together in one beautifully organized workspace.

Everything stays on your computer, giving you the freedom to write offline, explore your imagination, and focus on what truly matters: telling great stories.

Your stories. Your worlds. Your rules.

Created by Panos Sakalakis, a developer and writer with almost two decades of experience, The Novelist was coded in a small town somewhere in Northern Greece. Initially, Panos started coding his own application because he couldn't find a worldbuilding and book-writing app that could meet his personal needs and preferences. After two years of closed development, he finally shared the first Early Access version on his Medium blog, and the rest is history.
